Your freight questions, answered directly.
Customs procedures, tracking visibility, and surcharge breakdowns — covered here so your shipment moves without a back-and-forth.
Customs & Documentation
What documents are required for international freight?
Standard shipments require a commercial invoice, packing list, and bill of lading or air waybill. Import permits, certificates of origin, or material safety sheets may apply depending on commodity and destination.
Does UMAL handle customs clearance on my behalf?
Yes. Our operations team coordinates with licensed customs brokers at origin and destination, submitting declarations and managing checkpoint correspondence so you are not chasing approvals.
What happens if customs holds my shipment?
We notify you within the hour of any hold, identify the document or duty gap causing the delay, and work with the broker to resolve it. You receive a revised ETA as soon as clearance is confirmed.
Shipment Tracking & Visibility
How do I track my shipment in transit?
Each shipment is assigned a reference number at booking. Status updates are pushed to your registered email at every major milestone — departure, port arrival, customs clearance, and final delivery.
Do I need to contact UMAL to get status updates?
No. Milestone notifications are automatic. If you need a status outside scheduled updates, our operations team responds to enquiries within two business hours during GMT operating hours.
What are the transit times for international shipments?
Transit times vary by route, mode, and customs processing at destination. We provide estimated delivery windows at quote stage and flag any route-specific delays before booking is confirmed.
Pricing & Surcharges
Are there surcharges not included in the initial quote?
Every applicable surcharge — fuel levy, port handling, documentation fee, and any destination terminal charge — is itemised in your quote before you confirm. Nothing is added post-booking without written notice.
What does the freight rate cover?
The base freight rate covers origin collection or port handover, ocean or air freight, and destination delivery to the agreed address. Customs duties and import taxes are the consignee's liability unless otherwise agreed.
How do I request a freight quote?
Send your cargo details — commodity, weight, dimensions, origin, and destination — to support@umallogistics.com. We return a detailed quote within one business day.
Still have a specific freight question?
